2″ to top up, 4–6″ for a driveway or sub-base.

Recommended — crushed concrete settles ~20% when compacted.
Recycled concrete is cheap — often ~$15–35 / ton delivered.

How much crushed concrete do I need?
Crushed concrete (recycled concrete aggregate) is sold by the ton or cubic yard. Work out the volume, then convert:
Cubic yards = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (ft) ÷ 27. Multiply cubic yards by the density to get tons. Crushed concrete weighs roughly 1.4 tons per cubic yard, a little more once fines are included.
As a rule of thumb, one ton of crushed concrete covers about 100 square feet at 2 inches deep, or roughly 65 sq ft at 3 inches.

Crushed concrete FAQs
How much crushed concrete do I need for a driveway?
Multiply length × width × depth (all in feet) to get cubic feet, divide by 27 for cubic yards, then multiply by about 1.4 for tons. For example, a 40 × 10 ft driveway at 4 inches deep needs about 5.9 cubic yards, or roughly 8.3 tons of crushed concrete (with a 20% compaction allowance).
How many tons are in a cubic yard of crushed concrete?
About 1.4 US tons per cubic yard for ¾″ crushed concrete. Road-base grade with fines packs tighter at around 1.5 tons per cubic yard.
Is crushed concrete good for a driveway?
Yes. Crushed concrete compacts into a hard, stable surface and is usually cheaper than virgin crushed stone, which makes it a popular choice for driveways, sub-bases, and fill. The graded version with fines locks together best.
How much area does a ton of crushed concrete cover?
About 100 square feet at 2 inches deep, or roughly 65 square feet at 3 inches. One cubic yard (≈1.4 tons) covers about 160 sq ft at 2 inches.
Is crushed concrete cheaper than gravel?
Usually, yes. Because it is recycled, crushed concrete often costs less per ton than quarried gravel or crushed stone while performing similarly as a compacted base, so it’s a budget-friendly option for large areas.
